# eve Discord Agent

A Discord community agent that answers mentions in threads, recaps recent messages, and stays quiet during conversations.

## Catch up with your community in Discord.

Build a Discord assistant that answers questions in threads and recaps conversations people missed. This [eve](https://eve.dev/) template reads recent messages from the channel or thread where someone asks, with web search available for questions that need current information.

### Turn messages into a useful recap

Mention the bot with "what did I miss?" to get a summary of recent decisions, open questions, and action items. Customize the catch-up skill and agent instructions to fit your community.

The agent can stay quiet when people in its thread are talking to each other, rather than replying to every message.

### Reach the agent through mentions and DMs

An experimental Discord Gateway relay runs as a Vercel Daemon and forwards DMs, mentions, and thread replies to eve. Vercel Connect manages the bot credentials, so you do not put the bot token in environment variables.

### Set up and deploy

Use Node.js 24 and pnpm. Install dependencies, then run the guided setup:

```sh
pnpm install
pnpm exec eve add channel/discord --overwrite
```

Choose **DMs, mentions, and threads**, follow the prompts to connect your bot, and deploy with `pnpm exec eve deploy`. Install the bot in your server using the URL printed by setup, then mention it to start a conversation.

See the [repository's setup guide](https://github.com/vercel/eve/tree/main/apps/templates/eve-discord-agent-template) for connector configuration and local relay development.
